The winemaker and their story

Welcome to Château Musar.

Located in the Jounieh region, Château Musar was founded in the 1930s by Gaston Hochar. It produces quality white, rosé and red wines. His son, Serge Hochard, who was destined to become an engineer, decided to study oenology and, with his father’s encouragement, became a student of Emile Peynaud at the University of Oenology in Bordeaux.

The Gouws family’s winemaking history began in 1691. Ernst travelled to Europe (France and Germany) in 1975 to learn the art of winemaking.

On the estate, the grapes are harvested by hand in the Stellenbosch terroir, known worldwide for producing quality fruit-forward wines.
